Did you know you can make your own decoration from toilet paper tubes?
When I envisioned a piece of natural wall art for our the dining room, I found inspiration in the kraft brown cardboard paper rolls. You’re not going to believe what a pretty decoration you can make from such humble materials!
I love finding new ways to repurpose things; do you? If so, be sure to check out our post about how to reuse Christmas cards.
Follow our step by step tutorial below to learn how to craft your own TP roll art. This heart is made from about 8 empty rolls, each flattened and cut in 6 pieces:
Equipment Needed
Here’s what you’ll need to make a creative decoration out of recycled toilet paper tubes:
- Toilet paper tubes (You can also use paper towel roll tubes or gift wrap tubes)
- Sharp scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Paper clips
- Optional: Dried flowers
Step by Step Directions
STEP ONE: Flatten the toilet paper tubes by pressing down on them with your hand or a flat object.
STEP TWO: Cut the flattened tube into six equal pieces. Each piece will form a section of the decoration.
STEP THREE: To make your creation, just lay out the little leaf-shaped pieces until you come up with a design you like.
STEP FOUR: Glue all the pieces together. A hot glue gun works great for this, but you can also use regular glue. Just attach some paper clips to help hold the pieces together.
STEP FIVE: Let dry for several hours or overnight.
To finish the heart, I picked a few sprigs of dead grass and dried flowers from the garden, taped them together and glued the little bundles to the top of the piece. I hung it on clear push pins that are lightly tacked into the wall.
